... about London.
Hallo meine Lieben,
Ich hoffe ihr genießt das schöne Wetter momentan, welches sich sogar schon in London hat blicken lassen! In diesem Post möchte ich euch, wie die Überschrift schon sagt, 5 Dinge über London erzählen, die mir nicht gefallen.
Und zum ersten Mal habe ich dies sogar auch auf Englisch übersetzt, hoffen wir mal, dass nicht zu viele Fehler drin sind! :D
Punkt Nummer eins: Ich weiß nicht ob ich das vorher schon einmal erwähnt habe, aber es ist komischerweise unglaublich schwer waschechte Briten kennenzulernen. Jeder hatte in irgendeiner Art und Weise einen Migrationshintergrund und wenn man mal denkt einen Engländer getroffen zu haben, stellt sich wenig später heraus, dass dieser aus Kanada, Neuseeland, Südafrika oder einem anderen englischsprachigem Land kommt... Klaras und mein Ziel ist es also uns in den verbleibenden 2 1/2 Monaten auf die spannende und gefährliche Reise nach britischen Freunden zu machen :D
Punkt Nummer zwei ist relativ offensichtlich, wenn man bedenkt, dass London die Hauptstadt Englands ist - es ist unglaublich viel los und das vor allem am Wochenende, denn da ist Touri Time! Aus diesem Grund halten wir uns mittlerweile zu dieser Zeit so gut es geht vom Zentrum fern, denn dieses Getümmel ist echt sehr anstrengend. Besonders, wenn man einen Termin hat und nicht nur die Straßen total überfüllt sind, sondern auch die Bürgersteige. Ist eigentlich komisch, das jetzt so zu sagen, da ich vor acht Monaten ja selber noch der totale Tourist war, aber diese Menschenmassen machen alles ein wenig komplizierter und weniger genießbar. Abe hey, jeder ist von zeit zu Zeit mal Tourist und ich mags auch total neue Städte zu entdecken, aber jetzt weiß ich, wie es für die Ortsansässigen ist :D
Auch der nächste Punkt wird niemanden überraschen: die Preise sind für so ziemlich alles sehr hoch. Solange man nicht in Euro umrechnet geht das auch noch, aber wenn man sich dann tatsächlich Gedanken über die deutschen Preise macht, kriegt man doch einen Schreck. Ich weiß wirklich nicht, wie Studenten sich hier über Wasser halten - die Miete, das Essen, der Transport, Studiengebühren et cetera. Es fühlt sich so an, als wäre das kostenlose Leitungswasser, welches man in jedem Restaurant (meist) unaufgefordert bekommt, der einzige Lichtblick für den Geldbeutel.
Número cuatro: Die Zeit, die ich hier bis jetzt in öffentlichen Transportmittel verbracht habe, möchte ich lieber gar nicht wissen... Mehrmals die Woche fahre ich eine Stunde zu Klara oder ins Zentrum, nur um für ein paar Stunden zu quatschen, essen oder vielleicht einen Film zu gucken, um dann wieder eine Stunde zurück zu fahren. In Deutschland wäre ich niemals auf die Idee gekommen, eine Freundin, die beispielsweise nahe Köln wohnt, mehrmals die Woche zu besuchen, nur um ein wenig zu reden. Aber hier in London funktionieren die Uhren irgendwie anders und es ist ja jetzt nicht so, als hätte ich unglaublich viel wichtigeres zu tun :D Aber trotzdem!
Fünf: Diesen Punkt habe ich vorher schon mal angesprochen - es geht um die Wärmedämmung in den englischen Häusern, welche zumindest in den älteren Gebäuden (also fast alle?!) so gut wie nicht existent ist. Im Winter friert man sich hier nämlich teilweise den Ar*** ab! Ein weiterer Grund, warum London in den wärmeren Jahreszeiten einfach schöner ist :)
Das waren also die fünf Dinge, die mich an London stören! Aber wenn ich ganz ehrlich bin, dann weiß ich jetzt schon, dass ich einige davon vermissen werde, sobald ich wieder zurück in Deutschland bin. Natürlich ist es schade, so "wenige" Briten zu kennen, aber auf der anderen Seite habe ich dadurch mit Menschen aus unfassbar vielen verschiedenen Ländern geredet Und die langen Zeiten im Bus oder der Tube gaben mir Zeit zu lesen, meine Woche zu planen oder einfach mit ein wenig Musik abzuschalten. Aber zu den hohen Preisen oder der schlechten Isolierung finde ich bei aller Liebe keine Vorteile :D

I hope you are all doing great, especially since the weather got so nice :)
The moment that I planned for such a long time has come - I am going to try and write my posts not only in German, but also in English. I have thought about it many times but I was always so insecure about making mistakes but seriously, screw that! My friends, who are not from Germany, can finally understand my posts and I'll also have the chance to improve my English.
Enough said, it's time to actually tell you the things that I do not like about London, as it says in the title. I have been living here for eight months now and eventhough I really love this city and realise each and every day how lucky I am to get the opportunity to be here, there are some things that just suck. Like, a lot.
Number one: Let's start with something no one would expect - It is unbelievably hard to meet british people! I mean, you obviously see them walking around in their posh suits and dresses, making their way to work, but other than that? I feel like most people you really have the chance to communicate with - let's say in a cafe, restaurant, club et cetera, are from everywhere around the world - just not England :D
That's why Klara and I set the goal to make some british friends before we leave England in 2 1/2 months (holy shit, that's way too soon!).
Number two: As everyone knows, London is the capital of England, so it has the common characteristics of a big city - it is not only loud and exciting, but also really crowded. Way too many tourists, especially on the weekend. It might sound really strange to hear that as I was a tourist in London 8 months ago as well. I mean everyone is a tourist from time to time, right? And the thing is, everyone around you can tell. Why? Because you're walking way too slowly for people who have to get somewhere on time, you're taking pictures of EVERYTHING eventhough it is not pretty or 1279235970 other people have already taken a picture of the exact same thing. Don't get me wrong, I like tourists! I mean, I can't blame them for wanting to see a beautiful city and exploring another culture - I just don't like over-crowded places, cause I always get so stressed out :D
Number four: Something that has to do with London being the capital are the unbelievably high prices for almost everthing. Except for tab water, which you get for free in every Restaurant without asking (Germany, you have somehting to catch up on!), which doesn't make huge difference in my purse. But as my mom always says, you should appreciate the small things in life :D But seriously, I don't know how students actually manage to pay for a flat, food, university et cetera... Props to you, guys!
Point número cuatro: It always takes so long to get from A to B. When I want to see Klara, I always spend one hour in the tube or if we meet in the centre it's one hour on the bus. The crazy thing is, that you are still in the same city! In Germany, where I live, I would be in a completly different and kind of big city in like 35 minutes - which was already a big deal for me eight months ago. I would have never visited a friend several times a week if that persons lived more than half an hour away from my place. For me, it would almost be like going to Cologn every second day, just to catch up with a friend and watch a movie together, maybe go to a restaurant. Seems crazy when you think about it, doesn't it?
Well, the last thing is just quite annoying in the winter, when it is freezing cold. Not only outside, but also inside the house because the heat insulation is (most of the time) just really shitty. Sorry for my language, but I was freezing my butt off this winter! That's why I am even more excited for summer this year :))
That's it for now I guess! But should I tell you something? I know for sure that I am going to miss some of these things, when I am back in Germany because there is (almost) always a good side to them. Yes, it's hard to meet british people, but on the other side you have the chance to talk to people from all around the world, as London is such an international city. The long rides on the bus allow me to read a lot or plan my week, as there is not a lot to do other than that. I'm not gonna lie, I don't see any advantages concerning the high prices or the cold in the winter - so I'm not going to miss them!
